Cooked with ground beef, a variety of vegetables and spices, chili con carne is an easy recipe. As with so many ground beef dishes, its variations are unlimited. A wide variety of spices and vegetables can be used. This particular recipe is one of the best chili recipes that I have made. It’s origins trace back to the Spanish which was known as “chili pepper with meat.” It makes a fast and easy dish for parties or social gatherings. It is a great dish when you are having a few of the guys over to play some cards or watch a game on TV. Chili con Carne is considered an all time classic comfort food. It is especially appreciated on a cold or damp day.

Ingredients:
- 500 g ground beef
- 1 bell pepper, diced
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1 cup of button mushrooms, sliced
- 1/2 cup spaghetti sauce
- 2 (14.5 oz) cans crushed tomatoes
- 2 1/2 tbsp chili or cayenne powder
- 1 1/2 tsp of cumin
- 2 (14.5 oz) cans of kidney beans
- 3 cloves garlic minced
- salt and pepper to taste
1. Place the ground beef in a pan, and fry it over medium-high heat until juices come out and it turns light brown. About half way through the cooking process, drain the excess oil using a strainer and place it back in the pan.
2. Add in the onion and garlic and saute until they are fragrant. Stir them together with the ground beef for few minutes. Season with Chili powder and cumin. Stir until they are well incorporated.
3. Pour in the canned tomatoes, kidney beans, and spaghetti sauce. Simmer over low heat for at least 45 minutes.
4. Add in the bell peppers and mushrooms. Gently mix them together and simmer for another 15 minutes. Add more chili powder if necessary.
5. Turn off the heat and season with salt and pepper. Serve with rice, tortillas or bread.
