Broccoli with cheese sauce is a simple and delicious recipe. Broccoli is by far one of my favorite side dishes. I have to admit it is a little bit boring and bland. The addition of the cheese sauce brings the dish to life and adds that required zip. Any type of cheese can be used. Personally, I prefer old cheddar. It has that additional tang. You can also use Monterey Jack, medium cheddar, Colby, Swiss, mild cheddar. The list is endless. You can also make the sauce thicker by adding more cheese and less milk. you can also use additional spices such as garlic or parsley if you wish. If you want runny sauce, simply do the opposite. This is clearly a dish your dinner guests will love.
- 4 cups broccoli florets
- 1 tbsp butter
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/2 cup grated cheddar cheese
- sat and pepper to taste
Boil enough water to cover broccoli. Add a pinch of salt to the water. Add in the broccoli and let it cook for about 3 minutes. Drain it and set it aside in a bowl of ice water. Allow it to sit until the broccoli cools off.
In a medium saucepan, pour in the fresh milk. Add the butter and cheese. Bring it to a boil over medium heat until the butter and cheese melt. Season with salt and pepper. Stir until well combined.
Turn off the heat. Place in blanched broccoli on a platter. Pour the cheese sauce over it. Serve with your favorite main course.
